This free photoshop tutorial shows how to add a vignette in Photoshop in just a few easy steps.
The Ctrl or Cmd in this tutorial refers to the Control Key on a windows computer, or the command key on a mac.
STEP ONE – OPEN
Open any image in Photoshop.
STEP TWO – MARQUEE
Create a new layer, keyboard shortcut, { Ctrl or Cmd+Shift+N }. Now select the Elliptical marquee tool (you can also use the rectangular marquee), keyboard shortcut,{ M }.
There is a box along the top menu that says Feather. The value you enter here is relative to how big your image is and may require some testing. As my image is very small, I have chosen a 20px feather.
As you draw your marquee, you can hold the space bar down and this allows you to move the marquee into the position you want.
STEP THREE – SELECT INVERSE
Press { Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + I } or Select > Inverse from the toolbar menu.
STEP FOUR – FILL
Fill with black. Of course if you want any colour vignette then fill your image with the colour of your choice.
You are done!! I adjusted the opacity on my fill layer to 90% for a softer look.
