Domain Registration

Domain registration is the process by which a company or individual can secure a website domain, such as www.yoursite.com.au. Once you have completed domain registration the domain name becomes yours for the period of the contract, usually one year. Before registration expires it must be renewed, or the domain reverts back to being available to the general public.

KWD recommends using your business name as your domain name as this greatly assists with search engine optimisation. Read more on SEO

A good domain name is vital for a business. If the name does not match your business name or slogan then it must be closely related to one or both. Your domain name must also be easy to remember so that customers do not have to work hard to find your site online.

.com.au $88 for 2 years

.com $ 60 for 2 years

Registrations Costs

.net.au, .org.au, .an.au, .id.au - are also available in both the australian and global form.

If you are trading in Australia it makes sense to get the .com.au domain name so that you are recognised as an Australian business and get the benefits of it within Australia's search engine market.   .com.au domains may rank higher in Australia than international domain names. This is important if your market is solely in Australia.

If you are trading globally then a .com domain name may be more suitable. There is no reason why you can't have both. It is certainly possible to purchase both the .com and the .com.au versions of your domain name and have them both point to the same website, thus ensuring that another business does not have almost an identical website address to yours.

Other primary reasons for a business to register one or more domain names is to protect copyrights and trademarks, secure unique product names and increase their brand awareness with the public.

Generic names – if you can register a generic domain such as toys.com that’s great, but most of these have already gone. Also getting ranked in the search engines is likely to be harder. Selecting a domain closer to your market segment will cut down the competition. For example toyplanes.com.

KWD will register your domain name with the most popular search engines, such as yahoo, google, msn to name a few. If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
